A.    Introduction

Modern Technology makes life easier and more dignified. Its favorable effects on family and community can only be understood in details of every life. The society through technology is constantly changing. Some are subtle and barely noticeable, but can be experienced in the mundane activities of everyday living. It is a part of everything done using knowledge, and skills to increase potentials, to solve problems and to make lives better and enjoyable. The basic understanding of computer technology, specifically computer hardware and software and the components, works together to become valuable workers resulting in more productive working environment which leads to the career advancement opportunities.

On the other hand, computer games required large amount of data. Originally, it was developed on equipment designed for military and academic purposes. Today, computer games are driving force in the development of hardware such as 3D graphics accelerators. There are many types of computer games. Action games cannot be won, the game just gradually becomes harder, and highest honor achievable is to enter the high score list. The most general thing to say of the evaluation of the computer games is probably that it has become gradually more based on games. Almost, all of the early computer games introduced new game play elements; later games tend to be examples of specific genres, borrowing traits from earlier games. But it is important development in this context that the computer game has changed from being primarily played at an arcade to be primarily played in the home. This has made it possible to develop games of longer durations, to have games not focused on the simple goal of having as many players, insert coins as quickly as possible.

Preschool education is the provision of education for children before the commencement of statutory education, usually between the ages of two and five, dependent on the jurisdiction. Preschool is also known as nursery school day care or kindergarten. Preschool children are making developmental strides and express an interest in the world around them. They to want touch, taste, smell, hear, and test things for themselves. Kids learn by experiencing and by doing. Preschoolers learn from play, busy developing skills, using language, and struggling to gain inner control. With these as a background, the researcher has come up with an idea to design and develop the iSTGP: An Interactive Science and Technology Games for Preschoolers.

B.    Background of Study

Preschoolers such as pupils from day care centers, kinder, nursery and other preparatory schools are often times not equip with the knowledge and skills appertaining to the things that may ought to have. Several techniques and programs are used just to equip and nurture them with the right knowledge and training during the recent years. However, this does not guarantee that the pupils would gain more as far as new technology is concern. A lot of innovation has taken place in training and education as well as on the mode of the programs, tools and facilities where pupils have influence from it.

Parents and pupils are not yet aware of wide range of any e-training programs, educational software that would give them the opportunities to showcase additional and advance knowledge for their children, and for their children to acquire knowledge and skills in the new mode of technology easily and quickly. They are not yet provided and fully equipped with the educational games and application system which would give them ample and right information and excitement, which are theoretically proven to be an effective medium in learning in terms of science and technology subject.

This problem results to taking up a grade 1 course with a very poor assessment, which may also result to putting pupils in lower section or class. With this problem, the researcher come up with the idea of developing a system which help preschool pupils in lifting up their knowledge and skills from lower to better, if not the best in science and technology; and for parents to have an idea and choice with the right educational science and technology game for preschoolers, and finally, for different preschool institution as additional tool for student development.

With this educational game, pupils will be injected to expand their skills, reshape old patterns of thinking, have a wide range of knowledge and become more curious in the aspects of science and technology. Its aim is to inflate the logical, analytical and intuitive reasoning ability of the end user and would also allow them to simulate, learn and manage science and technology issues. Finally, these educational games would provide more interest for every pupil in preschool and would motivate them to learn and acquire knowledge and efficient information in terms of science and technology topics.

C.  Research Description

Objectives of the Study

General Objective

This study would focus on the development of an Interactive Science and Technology Game for Preschoolers, an educational game which aims to help pupils to develop their skills, discover and reshape the patterns of thinking, have a broad range of knowledge in terms of science and technology.

Specific Objectives

1.    To design and develop an interactive science and technology game that would provide excitement, technology-based information, education and skill training.
2.    To create interactive educational software that would help pupils to inflate their logical, analytical and intuitive reasoning ability.
3.    Test and evaluate the system primarily based on the user’s requirements and based on software quality standards.
4.    Produce system documentation for users and a research project report.

Manageability (Scope and Limitations)

This study is limited to the development of an iSTGP: An Interactive Science and Technology Games for Preschoolers. It is intended to be used by pupils in preschool to develop or widen their mindset in the fields of science and technology. This will serve as an educational game that would be designed to provide valuable assistance to the users in framing up their future skills in the said subject.

This study includes the following:

Evaluation system

Evaluation of the software will play the important role in determining the acceptability of the proposed system. The researchers will have to utilize the software evaluation instrument based on the review of related literature and studies and on the standard criteria set the ISO/IEC9126.

The respondents of the study are classified on the two groups : 1) Users –  consists of pupils from the different preschool institutions; and the 2) IT Experts that would determine the level of acceptability of the proposed software.
